The cogged belts offer more flexibility compared to the wrapped construction belts as the tooth profile allows the accumulation of air pockets, which acts as a heat absorber, and prevents the temperature of the drive increasing during operation.
The teeth run perpendicular to the belt length and reduce the bending stress over the belt. They run cooler, last longer, and have a substantially improved efficiency over wrapped construction belts. REC belts can be used with the same pulleys as wrapped construction belts and are used in a wide array of mechanical devices, where high power transmission is desired
