Business Development Manager (OEM & AM) – South & South West England

Location: Field Based – South & South West England (Reporting to Ipswich Office).

Distag QCS is a rapidly growing distributor and manufacturer of engineering components, supplying customers throughout the UK and Ireland. We are seeking an ambitious, commercially driven Business Development Manager to join our UK sales team.

This exciting field-based role will be responsible for developing new business opportunities and growing existing customer relationships across the South and South West of England. The successful candidate will work with both Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Aftermarket Distributors, promoting Distag QCS’s full range of engineering products and bespoke solutions.

Working closely with our Product Line Managers, Internal Sales Team and wider commercial team, you will help customers identify innovative solutions across our Mechanical Power Transmission, Hydraulics, Agricultural Components and Bespoke Manufacturing product ranges.

Key Responsibilities:

On a Daily Basis:

  • Make regular face-to-face visits and telephone/video calls to existing and prospective customers throughout the territory.
  • Research and identify new business opportunities across both OEM and aftermarket sectors.
  • Develop strong relationships with key decision-makers including engineering, procurement, operations, sales and senior management teams.
  • Assess customer requirements and recommend suitable products and solutions.
  • Introduce new product ranges and identify opportunities to increase customer spend across the full Distag QCS portfolio.
  • Identify opportunities for bespoke product development and outsourced manufacturing solutions.
  • Work closely with Group Product Line Managers to provide technical and commercial support.
  • Manage opportunities from initial enquiry through quotation, negotiation and implementation.
  • Act as a key point of contact for customers, providing ongoing support and developing long-term partnerships.
  • Ensure customer visits, opportunities and project updates are accurately recorded within the ERP/CRM system.
  • Monitor market activity, competitor developments and emerging customer requirements, providing regular feedback to management.
  • Promote the Distag Group brand through professional networking, customer engagement and platforms such as LinkedIn.
  • Encourage customer adoption of our online ordering and digital customer platforms.

On a Project Basis:

  • Develop and implement a strategic growth plan for the territory.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of new business opportunities and projects.
  • Analyse sales performance and customer activity to identify growth opportunities.
  • Conduct gap analysis to identify products and services customers are not currently purchasing from Distag QCS.
  • Identify opportunities to secure Distag products into OEM designs, specifications and supply chains.
  • Define and pursue key target accounts in conjunction with the UK Sales Manager and Product Line Managers.
  • Support new product introductions and product development activities where required.
  • Work collaboratively with Internal Sales and Product Line Managers to ensure successful implementation of new projects, contracts and customer onboarding activities.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support exhibitions, trade shows and customer events.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across all areas of the business to identify opportunities and deliver the best outcomes for customers.
  • Assist management and directors with strategic projects and business initiatives as required.
  • Support customers with product performance issues and coordinate investigations with suppliers where necessary.
  • Provide market intelligence and insight to help shape future sales and marketing strategies.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in business development, field sales, account management or a similar commercial role.
  • Experience selling technical, engineering or industrial products.
  • Experience working with OEMs, distributors, resellers or manufacturing businesses would be advantageous.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication abilities.
  • Self-motivated, organised and results driven.
  • Comfortable managing a territory and working independently.
  • Ability to understand and discuss technical products and customer requirements.
  • Proficient in CRM/ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK and stay away overnight when required.
